Help! Fibroids?

I think I have fibroids. I have lower pain and bleeding. I am 45 years old. I have made a dr. appointment does anybody know what they will do to help me with this.

I had them and it turned out not to be that serious. I had to go in for a D&C, and out-patient procedure. Really, it's not that big of a deal. Just a pain in the butt to have to go to hospital for the better part of a day, be put under and then sent home afterwards.

I want to know too, my mother called me the other night and was scared because the doctor said she might have fibroids.

If it is fibroids,
If the physician feels it is warranted,
there are medications that can shrink the size of the fibroids.
sometimes surgery is recommended as a treatment.

most people who think they have fibroid tumors are usually sent for an ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis. They may also due a trans vaginal ultrasound. If it is determined that you do in fact have fibroids they may require surgery to have them removed depending on the size. If you have increased weight gain especially in the abdominal area but really no where else and you have pelvic pain it's definitely best to see your doctor. My sister had fibroids and she had to have a hysterectomy. They took a 10lb fibroid out. Good luck and I hope it all turns out well.

You may not need to have them treated at all, unless the pain/bleeding is too much to handle. The vast majority of fibroids (Myomas) grow as a woman gets older, and tend to shrink after menopause. Heavy bleeding can be treated with birth control pills.

Your doctor will order an ultrasound to determine the size, location and quantity of fibroids that you have. (Fibroids are non-cancerous, in case you didn't already know.) If they are very small, chances are they will put you on birth control pills and pain relievers such as Advil or Motrin.

If you have a large amount of fibroids, they will look at surgical treatments such as hysteroscopic resection, uterine artery embolization, drugs such as GnRH, or other types of surgery.
