Some questions about fiber?


I have some questions about fiber

1. I eat a lot everyday (im a vegan and get it from veggies, fruit, grains, etc...all my meals are high in it and even my snacks...it keeps me regular and I go the same time everyday

2. Is it true that fiber blocks some of the calories and fat from being absorbed by the body..should I eat some non fiber foods?

3. I dont like junk food or anything and dont eat sweets but I was wondering since fiber is a part of my everyday natural diet, if I have something a treat, like something with more sugar in it... a flavor syrup added to soymilk for example..would the fiber like cancel it out? I dont know if that made sense.

No, fiber does not block calories from being absorbed by your body. What it does do, though, is make your body feel full quicker with less calories. The fiber would not cancel out anything else you eat, but typically a vegan diet is very very healthy for you. It's the only diet known to actually reverse atherosclerosis, which is the leading cause of heart disease. It also carries cholesterol out of your body and gives your colon a 'workout,' if you will.

Think of a little bitty dry sponge. That is fiber. When you eat it, it goes into your stomach and expands, like a sponge would do when submerged into water. That is how the fiber makes you feel fuller, quicker.

i agree with the first answer fiber does not block calories..etc...it just keeps u regular

Fiber is good to lower cholesterol,to relieve constipation,which will protect you from heart attack,stroke,colonic cancer,piles and obesity.But it is also a fact that heart attacks and strokes are common in pure vegetarians also,so it is not 100%protective.It can interfere with absorption of some vitamins and drugs,can cause too much gasses,and sometimes obstruction in your gut also if you will not drink a lot of water with it.Conclusion:eat every thing moderately Goodluck.
