Fetal Alcohol Syndrome do you deserve a compensation package ?

Considering the number of insurance claims resulting from drinking drivers under the subtitle of personal injuries it is so easy to receive a compensation package related to those alcohol related injuries.

Would you prefer a compensation package of similar design rather than the severe and inadequate welfare packages meant to sustain fetal alcohol injuries ? Adding insult to injury have you felt inadequate each time you read what experts have to say about FAS, is FAV kinder ?

FAS = foetal alcohol syndrome
FAV = foetal alcohol victim

What say you when taxpayers complain FAS is a drag on today's economy.

For those who have answered don't drink while pregnant you have not read the question. This is a question to those who are victim to mothers that drank during their pregnancy.

The fetal alcohol victim is not the offender but rather the person in need of compensation

what don't drink while you're pregnant

While that is an important message it is at the expense of those who are existing victims Report It

Dont drink when pregnant

I feel bad for the victims of FAS, I think their parents should be sterilized.

Sure sue your mom. I'm sure she has insurance and or money to give you.

I say the taxpayers are right. We should not be held responsible for another person's drinking while pregnant and having a baby that has FAS. I think all welfare recipients who are drug addicts and alcoholics should have mandantory sterilization.

I read you question. IT IS A DRAG ON OUR ECONOMY. The government is all for women getting abortions, this should be one of them.

Hell no!!! If your child has FAS your child should be taken away from you because you don't know how to take care of yourself, not alone a child.

compensation package? no, no, and no.

here's my solution:
the child should be taken away and the mother should be sent to a penal labor camp for the next ten years to pay for the child's medical expenses.

This is an excellent question, but the answer will be debated for a long time. FAS is a spectrum from the very obvious to the "well yes, it's possible." Experienced dysmorphologists often disagree on the diagnosis.

Secondly, who would be sued? The mother? I doubt it. The drinking establishments and alcoholic beverage manufacturers all have warning signs and labels about drinking during pregnancy. Does this give them immunity?

While I have sympathy for the FAV, I am against giving large awards via the tort system. FAVs often require a lot of community and other public and private resources. To that extent they impact our economy. So goes it with any preventable disease, condition, or even war.
