I have a child with fetal alcohol syndrome who also had down syndrome. Is there any documentation on this?

He is 17 years old. Is anyone out there who has a child with this rare combination of Syndrome's? Thanks.

I think you have to be careful here. Some of the signs of FAS are also present in persons with Down syndrome. Probably the most important factor in a situation such as yours is if there is a history of significant alcohol use in the mother during pregnancy.

Secondly, the incidence of FAS is uncertain, and the incidence of Down syndrome varies by maternal age.

Nevertheless, I'll take a stab at an answer: the likelihood of having a child with Down syndrome and FAS is 4 per 10,000,000 births.

There is tons of information on both disabilities, check google, I am sure you will find what you want. Ask your doctor for information, go to the library. Good luck with your child.

We are about to adopt a 4-year-old boy with both Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Down Syndrome. Would love to know your experience. Met him for the first time yesterday...
