Question for follks with false teeth?

I just got my dentures and eatting with them is such a pain. I have had them for a month now and I still cannot eat meat cause my teeth come loose, I put a powder stuff on it and it dose not help. will I be able to eat nuts and meat again? this is serious to me, all you lucky that still have teeth take care of them dentures are not fun!

If it's only been a month since you received your dentures, chances are your gums have been shrinking, which is normal, causing your dentures to losen.

I agree that the paste-type adhesives work alot better than the powdered ones... they put more of a 'cushion' between the denture and the gums.

Make an appointment with your dentist to see if you can have a reline done at this time. Some dentists prefer to wait 6 months after the denture is placed. If it's too early for you, hopefully some adjustments can be made so you'll be able to eat better.

Good Luck!

:)

there are alot of different adhesives out there - i never had much luck with the powder one...

the secrets tend to be to brush your whole mouth first (before putting in the dentures or partial and dry out your gums before putting on the adhesive ... i prefer fixodent cream...

if they are still coming loose even though the adhesive is on the right way (putting it in a dry mouth, using enough, ect) go back to your dentist - they might need to be adjusted

I have two bridges so I do have some false teeth. However, my grandmother had to wear dentures after having to have most of her teeth pulled out when she was only in her early 30s. She used to tell me many of the same things you have said and was very insistent that I get my teeth fixed when I had problems instead of getting them pulled out. She also said that she would give her right arm if only she could have her teeth back. It was no fun having to avoid certain foods and to have the dentures slip out at the most embarrassing moments.

I have dental implants but I am a member of http://groups.msn.com/DenturesANewSmile/...
You should consider joining this site.

However one of the posters swears that if you use both the cream and powder adhesive that you get a better less sticky fit. Can't hurt to try it.
