Dentures or false teeth?

i am interested in getting dentures, i am only 23.. my mom says not to do it, but when i was at the dentist last he said that alot of my teeth arent worth saving because they are rotted on the inside.. i mean i have a nice smile, but i have alot of cavaties from soda and they arent very white either... i just want a gorgeous smile, bright white and if i get all these cavaties drilled and teeth pulled. why not just get them all gone and get a nice set of fake ones?? atleast that way i can keep a white smile withour all the hassle.... give me your opinion..... thanks

also if anyone has them... does it hurt and how long before you can talk and eat and all of that ??? also is it a one day procedure, cause i am not going in public with no teeth!!!!

i just got my dentures 8 months ago. i had a horrible smile. i thought there was going to be alot of pain. but i was surprised when there wasnt. i got my new teeth put in the same day. i didnt eat anything the rest of the day. was not hungary. the next few days, i ate alot of pudding and icecream, (i now no longer eat pudding, as i now hate it) after the 5th day, i started eating solids because i was starving. as time goes on, you will be able to eat most of the same things you ate before. (with out the pain, oh joy joy) it takes like 6 months for your gums to heal completly, as they are shrinking slowly. you will have to go in periodicly to get your denture re-lines. but it is not bad. you will then either get a permanent re-line in your denture, or you will get fitted for a permanent denture, depends on what plan you have. best of luck to ya

ask for venneers!

if that is what will make you comfertable i would do it..a firend of mine had this done at 24 due to a problem with soft teeth..she was always in pain and her teeth looked awful.....just do your research and talk with your dentist ...be prepared for a recovery period and knonw once it is done it cannot be reversed...you can always look into permanant false teeht in whish they actually attach small screw in your jaw and the teeth screw in......

You are way too young for 'false teeth', and dental medicine is way beyond them now. A competent dentist will never suggest them as a first solution.

I'm familiar with this sort of dental work. First, keep your good teeth, have the hopeless ones removed, then have DENTAL IMPLANTS rather than false teeth. It isn't cheap but the results are the same as natural teeth. A combination of implants and bridges may be in order.

You must find an good oral surgeon who specializes in this work. The results will be a dazzling.

Please realize you lose bone when you lose teeth. It slowly dissolves away over the years. If you are 23, you have 50-60+ years ahead of you! (Lord willing). I see it all the time. Elderly people wanting the dentist to make a miracle with their denture. The bone ridge is nearly flat and they expect the dentist to create a denture that will stay put. If you lose too much bone, implants can not be placed, so that will no longer be an option. I would at least try to salvage some of your teeth. Invest some money now into them and get implants, bridges and crowns/veneers. Partial dentures are one option, but they have their own set of problems to them. Number one thing you have to do if you decide to save your teeth: LAY OFF THE SUGAR DRINKS! If you invest the time, money and effort to fix your teeth, please don't ruin them with soda pop, and too much sugar in other drinks and food.
Dentures are not a miracle cure, you will have several sets made throughout your life. To extract your teeth will cost approx. $100 or more per tooth. Dentures are $5000 plus depending on your area. If you worked on 1 or 2 teeth in a year you would eventually have a health mouth. I don't know what pain you are dealing with of course, but just trying to get you to take "little bites" at repairing your teeth if you are feeling overwhelmed by it all. I hope this gave you some pros and cons to think about anyway.

you can have a porcelain jacket but you have to undergo rootcanal treatment first to kill the nerves

It is good to hold on to ur natural teeth for as long as u can because some people dont get on well with false teeth( dentures) and u may be one of them, plus with dentures u cant taste ur food probably, and u have to remove them at night which is a pain! there are some good info about teeth in the link below.
Take care
