i previously asked this question proir to going to the doctors, and now ive been and they still dont know whats wrong with me, i keep fainting and there is no expalination yet. i have had blood tests for throiyd, blood cells etc and they came back normal, i also had a pregnancy test and im waiting for that results although i know im not pregnant becuase i would now be 4 months pregnant (if i was) ive had periods and i took the morning after pill when i did have sex. so how common is it for young women it faint and does anyone have any idea why i maybe fainting. any ideas grateful. xxx

It's your blood sugar. You have an imbalance.

Change your doctor. If you are all of a sudden fainting for no reason...such as exhaustion, lack of food intake, etc. it could be nothing or it could be very serious.

If I were the doctor I would have checked your blood pressure. If that is okay then I would have done a MRI if I couldn't find any reason.

I don't know much, but when I have students whom faint it is normally because they: 1. haven't eaten or did not have a "proper" meal 2. When standing they lock their knees. If your standing for a long period of time make sure that one knee is bent a little bit. 3. or dehydrated I know I get dizzy if I haven't had enough water.

I know it's not a real medical answer, but I hope it helps.

Oh if you feel dizzy, take a knee down and crouch on the ground.

Make sure that you eat a good, healthy diet with plenty of complex carbohydrates to keep your blood sugar levels constant.

Also do not sit or stand still for extended periods as the muscles in your legs play a vital role in pumping the blood back up to your brain through one way valves. Its ok when you are asleep as the head is at a similar level to your head when lying down.

If you have to stand or sit then periodically get up and walk around or stand on tiptoes then back down etc. This will help pump the blood back up. This is why the queens home gaurds outside of Buckingham Palace used to sometimes faint as they weren't allowed to move. They are now allowed to tip toe every so often to prevent this though.

When I was around 18 till I was almost 20 I would faint randomly. It was horrible.I went to the doctor where they saw something that looked like a cyst on my heart, but they were sure because it was so small and had to wait and see if it grew any bigger. Nothing came out of it, my heart was and is fine, but I still was fainting. It went away after almost two years and I haven't fainted in 3. I don't know if it's just your bodies way of dealing with stress that it just shuts down or what, but it was a very scary point in my life. I know this isn't that helpful but I just wanted you to know that you are not alone!

Take care

Do you eat much meat? When I was in high school I had a Vitamin B12 deficiency, but it took FOREVER for the docs to diagnose it because it wasn't a routine part of their blood tests. If you don't eat enough meat, or equivalent B12 sources (nutritional yeast is a good one) you could have B12 anemia.

Also Blood suger is important. The other answerers were right to say complex carbs is the way to go. Load up of complex carbs AND protein every morning. No sugary cereal with milk. Eat a real breakfast: fruits, whole grain cereal or oatmeal, milk, yogurt and/or bacon. Then bring some almonds or walnuts to snack on at school or work before lunch.
When your blood sugar is low, you'll feel dizzy and in a bad mood. Experiment with never going 2 hours without at least eating something (healthy). Then you'll be able to know if blood sugar has been the issue.
