Fainting and memory loss. I had an MRI done after a brain surgery, 6 years too late.?

I ended up blacking out after I sat up. I was told I was in and out for five minutes, and that I was siezing. I remember very little and was surprised to find out I was there for 20 minutes waiting for ambulance. I don't remember any thing of this time. At first they said I had a siezure and then they said I fainted because I sat up too fast. I have fainted before and never did it feel like this. This was a black out, when I woke up I guess briefly my eyes were fixed in a translike state, I don't remember anything after that until they put me on the stretcher. I then came through. They said my eyes rolled back and my body was trembling and my head moving back and forth. I also was found to have risidual mass in my brain and lack of blood flow within that. I have to have more test ran to check the blood flow, they said it could just be scar tissue. I didn't have a headache or anything after just very tired. I am very confused can you experience memory loss with fainting?

With respect, the memory loss is nothing to be concerned about.

Memory loss and confusion after fainting or seizures is normal - after a seizure it is known as a 'post-ictal' state. Your red blood cells carry oxygen around the body and reduced blood flow to the brain therefore means reduced oxygen supply to the brain. In this dysfunctional state, amnesia is to be expected.
Sitting up too fast can cause fainting - the sudden change of position may have dropped your blood pressure (postural hypotension) causing you to faint. I'm a veteran paramedic and have seen a lot of seizures and it really sounds to me that you suffered a seizure by the description you gave, and the space occupying lesion (residual mass) *often* causes seizures.

Given that this might happen again, advise your friends to elevate your legs if you faint (this will encourage blood towards the brain) and if you have a seizure get them to roll you on the side, clear your airway and protect you from injury.

Call the paramedics everytime without delay - if it is a seizure then you need hi-flow oxygen and midazolam (anti seizure drug).
Seizures and fainting are symptoms of something else and it is vital for your doctor to determine the cause.
Hope it all works out well for you!

if you fall very hard you possibly could.

yes, memory loss caused by fainting is very common and due to loss of blood flow to the brain. Without adequate blood flow the brain does not operate correctly and there for you most likely won't remember much if anything. Take Care of Yourself and Good Luck with your test! Merry Christmas!

First off I really hope that you start feeling better! To answer your question, I agree that you are probably having seizure. However an up and coming condition known as dysautonomia has been found to cause fainting. Dysautonomia means dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system and is cased by damage created by viral illnesses, surgeries, exposure to chemicals and pregnancy. There are a few other causes, but I can not remember them right off. I am not saying you have this, but I know it causes fainting. Just a thought however it does sound more like a seizure in your case. Hope you get well soon!
