Cause of fainting spell from shot? |
About five minutes after getting a flu shot at my company, I nearly fainted. I was able to stop the fainting process by eating a granola bar. Could this be an allergic reaction to the flu shot? - or is it possible that the dosage may have been too much for me (I weigh about 110 lb), since they give the same dosage to everyone regardless of gender, height, or weight? - or could this be a case of nerves? I received a flu shot a few years ago with no reaction; however, 10 years ago when I got the MMR (Measles Mumps Rubella) vaccine shot, I actually fainted in the Doctor's office, and I had to be revived with smelling salts. It was an anxiety attack. My best friend does this all the time. She pass out cold after a TB test. I couldn't help but laugh. She gets woozy just watching TV shows like ER with needles. I have to have blood drawn at least weekly for the rest of my life and she just doesn't know how I do it. it is a phisiological reaction---your body basically thinks it is being attacked...it happens all the time...i know lots of big firefighters that flop over the minute they get stuck with a needle...very common...or maybe your blood sugar level was too low? that can cause fainting too.. Were you standing upright for in the same position for a while when these fainting spells happened? Doing this can cause you to pass out. It's happened to me before. When I went to see my doctor to find out why it happened, that's the explanation she gave me. It is not an allergy, the dosage would be the same regardless of what you mentioned as long as you are an adult vs child. Since you have fainted before it sounds like you just have a fear of needles ande after the shot you tend to faint. From now on make sure you are sitting down or better yet laying down to get your shot and then wait a few minutes before you SLOWLY get to your feet. You'll be fine. I think it is your body's reaction to getting a shot . . . last time I got a shot I nearly fainted. The only reason I didn't is because I sat down and put my head between my knees. |
