Why must a fainting person try to stay awake?

I gave blood once, got up, drank my juice, ate my cookies, and fainted. The nurses insisted I stay awake. All I wanted to do was sleep. Why should a fainting person stay awake?

... because it worries the people trying to care for you.... sleep and dying look similar....

So, they do not drift off and never wake up

You don't get enough oxygen that you need while you're passed out, so there's the potential for brain damage.

after you donated blood, you body goes to a traumatic shock...specially if you was tired at the time...nurses wants you to stay awake to prevent oxygen deprivation to the brain....maybe next time you will like to mention this to the staff that drain your blood, the way they will keep looking at you...and never leave the place until you fell well enough to drive by yourself..I'm a blood donor and never had the experience , but I had seen many people that had the problem....
