Do you have Tourette's Syndrome?

If so, what are your symptoms? What is life like for you? I am asking those who have it personally and not those who knows or lives with someone who has it.

I do have a mild case Tourette's and some of my symptoms include facial tics and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It doesn't bother me much. But I do remember one of my neighbors telling her daughter to stay away from me. That was before she got to know me and our kids became friends.

Has anyone questioned you in regards to your Tourette's, or do people generally not mention it? I have found that people don't mention it with me, but I have had one person who also had a mild case recoginze the same symptoms in me.

Please let me know who's out there. I would like to know that I'm not alone.

I have Tourettes. I am in my 30s and have had it as long as I can remember. It still bothers me alot. It makes me very shy and withdrawn. I got teased alot in school but as an adult noone ever mentions it. My brother will make a joke about it every now and then but that doesnt bother me because I know he isnt teasing me, hes trying to make me think of it in a funny way. I know alot of people have it less severe as they get older but that isnt the case with me. I am on meds and I still have times when I cant control it. I know its not a big deal but I still feel like it affects my daily living.

I don't have Tourette's but a dear friend has and so does his daughter.
He has an amazing sense of humour. Movement is uncontrollable. I
have Dystonia which is in the Parkinson's family. People think I have
Parkinson's. I have been made fun of because people don't understand.
Some people look at me as if I were a freak. I can't control my movements
either. Either my head or my right hand. I don't have problems using the
keyboard for now but the mouse has a mind of its own. Get properly
diagnosed. There are things that can be done for you. I was diagnosed
by the top man in London, Ont. Dear friend, I know what you are going
through but if you are properly diagnosed it will give you a lot more
confidence. I know it is not easy and people are rude and stare. It happens
to me all of the time. We both have a Neurological disorder in the brain.
I hope that you can get help. I have never had a contact before, but for
you I am going to make an exception. I want to know how you are getting
along. God bless you. xo

You are not alone. My son has this disorder, but does not want to talk about it!

I usually only mention it to his teachers, coaches and anyone else who will have authority over him. I tell them that if they are expecting him to hold still, it's not going to happen! I tell them not to discipline him for tics.

I find that when I am in public, if I treat him "normally" people tend to follow suit. Most people just don't know and are not sure what is appropriate.

If you want to make a difference, check out the youth ambassador program through the TSA. Educating others is the key that will unlock the mystery.
