PCOS...Weight....Pregnant...?

Okay! So today one of my worst fears have come true...My doctor called me and told me that my lab work returned and it's postive that I have PCOS...I have two of the main symtoms, Excessive Facial hair and weight gain....Tho my periods have been regular since I was 11 I am now 22 this month....I moved to MO in 02 and have gained 50 pounds....I am constantly up and down...I have to eat at least 1000 calories or less and excercise for at least a hour and half every day in order to loose weight...OKay so after this horrifying converstation we made a appoinment for next week to talk about everything and consdier our options I guess...

My question is, Has anyone gone through this PCOS? Were you able to concieve? Also, are you put on medication for this disorder to help with facial hair, weight, etc?? I know i will have to ask doctor these questions to, But i'm just wantin other peoples experiences or knowledge.what to look forwards to and to ask him...i dont want to forget anything..thnx

i was diagnosed june 06. I have been overweight since the year i started my period i was 12. i also have more recently started having the excess hair growth on my chin, stomach and toes. It is very annoying. I have been told that there is not meds to reverse this just to slow it. Laser hair removal was given a a possible solution but its a little pricey. As far as the hormonal parts meds will become a daily part of your life so get ready. Ask your dr anything. Never be embarresed cause you can bet they have already heard it. Pregnancy is a bit of a dilema for me, my husband and I have been trying for over 3yrs. My ex dr. waited until june to test me for it they kept blaming my problems on depo provera shot. I now have a wonderful dr who is trying serveral solutions. good luck with everything and dont get frustrated if things dont work the first time. Also try this web site they are very helpful.

I'm not sure what they prescribe for the hair growth, but many people with PCOS take a medication that is normally used to treat diabetes called Metformin. It's important to protect your liver when you have PCOS.
