Should I wear glasses or contacts when I go in for my eye exam? |
I have an eye exam in a couple of days but I'm not sure whether I should wear my glasses or contacts when I come in for it. I can't see anything without one or the either but I hate wearing glasses. I was just wondering which one would be easier for both the doctor and me to complete the exam. Either should be fine but I think wearing your glasses should be better. Your eyes are less stressed when you're wearing your glasses in comparison to contact lens since the lens sit on your eyeball. If your eyes are more relaxed, the evaluation of your eye prescription is more accurate. If you do choose to wear contact lens to your appointment, take them out 10- 15 mins before your appointment so your eyes could rest a bit. wear the contacts so the doc can evaluate their fit on your eye and the health of your eye while wearing them.. If possible wear your glasses. If you wear your contacts they're going to make you take them out anyways, so it would save you both the hassle. They need to see your eyes without anything on them. Best of luck. If you wear contacts most of the time I would wear those in so that they can evauate the fit and see if the type you wear are what is good for you, but take your glasses too. You will have to take the lenses out in some places to go through some of the pretesting that they do. that way they can see how your cornea reacts after the lenses are out and to get a proper refraction and k readings for new glasses and contacts. Some contacts can change the shape of your cornea and after you take them out it can change the way your exam goes too. We have people come in with them on then take them out to do some pretesting and further testing. In the office I work at, either is fine. The OD has them take their contacts out and will usually give them their new ones to put as soon as the glaucoma drops wear off. The only time I wouldn't wear them is if your going to be dilated for the exam, which you could find out beforehand. In the past, I always wore my contacts and took my glasses. I had to take my contacts out...and my glasses were WAAAAAY outta whack, so I really couldn't see with them anyway. It's really up to you...my optometrists have never said they prefer one way or another...and the ophthalmologists I work for now, well it really depends on the patient and their problem, but for the general optometrists in my office, they do not seem to prefer one or the other. take your vision aids -especially if you need them to see. |
