If laser eye surgery is as good as it is touted to be, why do most eye doctors still wear glasses or contacts?

If laser eye surgery is as good as it is touted to be, why do most eye doctors still wear glasses or contacts?

I checked into laser surgery when I was in my late 30s. My doctor said that, laser correction will correct for the conditions at the time of the surgery. If you are young, it can be a good thing. However, about age 40 or so, presbyopia (old vision) starts setting in. I went from single vision glasses to bifocal contacts at 40, my wife started wearing glasses for the first time in her life at 42. So, if you get laser correction, you will be good for a while, but after about age 40 you will eventually need glasses or contacts as your eyes continue to age.

So, how old were the doctors?

Not everyone is able to get this surgery due to age or the condition of their eye.. Better yet ask your eye surgeon why they havent had the surgery.

theres also the fact that it takes forever to heal (up to 3 years) a doctor can't really take 3 years off work for that. most people get it because they dont want to wear glasses and are willing to suffer with the side effects in order to not have to wear them. and if i were an opthamologist, i dont know if i'd trust another opthamologist to do the surgery on me.. im sure not many of them are friends...

There are a couple of good reasons. 1) Lasik is expensive,. around $3500 for each eye. 2) It isn't a quick fix for all the eye problems out there. 3) The effects of the surgery can reverse themselves. 4) There is a very slight chance that the surgery could blind you permanently. 5) Time consuming. Hope this answers your question.

your eyes never really heal from LASIK surgery and you have bad night vision and the surgery usually gives you near sightedness as well

Because of the "what if" factor. What if something did go wrong. I would guess it would ruin the Drs practice and his way of life. Also,i believe there is still not enough evidence for the LONG TERM effects of this procedure.
