What can I do about chronic eye injuries? |
5 or 6 times in the last few years I have had scratches on my cornea that become infected. This is getting really old really fast. Each time I have to go to the opthomologist, get prescribed really expensive eyedrops, and put up with pain and light sensitivity for several days. My only theory is that I'm trying to gouge my eyes out in my sleep or something, as I think I'd notice if my eye was scratched that badly while I was awake. Has anyone ever had a similar problem? There are several things that can scratch your cornea. Probably the most likely ones in your situation are your fingernails (if you're rubbing your eyes) or an eyelash that gets stuck in your eye. You'd probably notice if you had an eyelash in your eye long term, though. Take a close look at how you take care of your eyes. The next time you get a scratch, think carefully about everything that has come in contact with your eye. Also, talk to your eye doctor about his/her take on why this is happening so frequently. |
