How do I get my eye doctor to understand what I need??

I have complicated eyesight due to a closed head injury that affects my eye coordination.

The last two optometrists I have been to set me up with prescription reading glasses taht work beautifully, if they are held a few inches from my face. I've tried to explain this to my eye doctors and they just don't get it and insist that the prescription is the right one.

Also, my eyes blur in and out as they have me read the eye chart. I focus on one eye at a time and the doctors (both of the last two) won't take the time to let me do individual eyes when they try to focus on how far it is for the distance to the eye chart.

I'm sick and tired of getting prescriptions that don't work and I cannot afford to keep going to different eye doctors - I don't have insurance.

Any suggestions on how to explain this better to my eye doctor?

You need to see an Opthamologist who may recommend invasive procedures to correct internal damage to your retina. Optometrists only prescribe external corrective lenses. Please see your regular family doctor for a referral. Good luck and God Bless You!

if you tell them and they don't listen to you then they are not worth going back to but need to bug them to get the pair that you have correct and with the issues that you have going on you should start going to an ophthalmologist.

I would explain to the doctor before they test your eyes. Also, I would inform them that the problem results in several trips to change prescriptions so you will pay them when they get it right.

Tell the doctor that the glasses work well for you when they are held away from your eyes but do not give you the vision you need when they are at the correct distance from your eyes.
An Optometrist can solve this problem for you.
