Are ear or eye infections contagious? |
just like a regular ear infection and some swollen eyelid that my doctor prescribed antibiotics and eye drops for. am i at all contagious? its been about a week and i don't have a fever anymore The swollen eyelid may have been blepharitis and otitis media isn't contagious. Don't worry about it. no eye infections such as conjuctivitous is very contagious yes sometimes it depends how serious it is As far as I know, ear infections themselves aren't contagious. But eye infections can be. If you get pinkeye or another infectious disease, you can easily pass that on to others. Also, washing your hands frequently and limiting an infected person to a particular part of the house in the few early days you notice will help reduce the risk. Also, using a disinfectant to clean doorknows, light switches, and anything else touched "commonly" will help reduce chances of spreading anything. I like lysol, but you should find an anti-bacterial cleaner of your choice. If a person is sick, they should cover their mouth if they cough or sneeze, and make sure you monitor what's going on. If you stay sick for any length of time or don't seem to be getting better, or your symptoms are apparent, it's probably better to get to a doctor. no..I think pink eye is the only one that is YES!!!!! Especially if you have the slightest fever. that would depend on the type of infection you have you should check with your doctor probably not The eyes and ears are exposed to numerous disease-causing bacteria and viruses. Eye infections usually result in a condition commonly called "pink eye," or conjunctivitis. This highly contagious condition is often occurs among preschool children. Pink eye can also be caused by non-infectious agents, such as smoke or pollen. Ear infections are also common among children. Otitis media refers to infection or inflammation of the middle ear. It usually occurs due to a blockage of a narrow passageway leading form the middle year to the back of the nose and throat. Inflammation of the ear canal or outer ear is called otitis externa. Swimmer's ear is an example of otitis externa. In spite of its name, anything that causes bacteria or fungi to enter the lining of the ear can cause swimmer's ear. While most ear infections clear on their own, some require antibiotics. |
