Eye infection...need some help? |
My left eye problem began with a stye, but it has grown to a full blown infection. My eye is totally swollen shut and at the left corner it has a pus filled sore. The whole left side of my face hurts. I have some sulfa eye drops and even tried a potato to draw the infection out. I have no insurance and cannot afford to see an Opthamologist. I am afraid it might turn into a staff infection. What else can I do? A Stye is an infection of a gland in your eyelid. It sounds like it has passed this stage and become something called pre-septal cellulitis or Orbital Cellulitis. Because of the location this infection could pass to your brain. You MUST see an eye doctor (optometrist, ophthalmologist) to get this under control, it is potentially life threatening. At this point any eyedrops are not going to help a lot, and you should probably be on oral antibiotics, but again that is really for a doctor to decide. With the indication the pain that is spreading to the side of your face, the infection is spreading. You may not have any insurance, but perhaps there is a university teaching hospital that you could go to. They will base the amount you pay on the amount you make. This would be better than losing sight in your eye or worse. Boric acid always worked for me. once its gotten that far theres nothing you can do. you don't want to risk your sight so go see a dr. tell him your financial predicament and he'll probably give you samples, i do it every time i go to the dr.... honey, your gonna have to go to the Dr. use a credit card if you have to but this sounds serious. go to the Urgent Care or ER today if no Drs office are open. Try going to a free clinic in your area. That can make you go blind if you don't take care of it. Most hospital have funding for people who can't pay for their bills. The ER can't turn you away. I would not mess with it if it has pus comming out of it. It might be PINK EYE! Go to a clinic emergency room. The law doesn't allow them to turn you away. I don't know how liable we are here to give medical advise. Your symptoms are consistent with bacterial conjunctivitis, or pink eye (except there is no pain face pain with conjuntivitis)....anyway, try the following: When you don鈥檛 have money to get the care you need, here are some free resources for you, read through them, and pick up the phone, and get your needed help. |
