Odd eye infection.?

i've had an eye infection for around, 1 year now. that white gunk (says my doctor) keeps coming, and it won't stop. i've used 20 eyedrops, nothing seems to be working. It seems to be getting a little bit better, but my eyes always water. Also, it looks like i've got a black eye! does anyone have any advice.

It's not normal for an eye infection to go on for so long... Your GP should refer you to an Ophthalmologist, who will be better equiped to diagnose and treat your problem. Don't bother going to see an optometrist, they are unable to prescribe and can only recommend over-the-counter drops.

Incidentally, do you also suffer from sinus problems? A sinus infection can often be mistaken for a eye infection as the discharge (white gunk) can often reflux up the tear duct into the eye, causing a swollen eyelid, red eye appearance and a discharge. Eye drops wont help if this is the case, the sinus infection would need to be treated systemically.

your gp should refer you to an opthamologist for further testing. recurrent eye infections could effect your vision if left inadequately treated. go to your opticians. it sounds like a blocked tear duct thats getting infected. ask your gp to refer you on to the appropriate person.

I really feel for you, that must be horrible.

Could it be a persistant case of conjunctivitus? Update your mascara to avoid further infection and other eye makeups. Use a hyper allergenic or sensitive eyes mascara. No 7 from Boots do a good range.

Hope it clears up soon

I would ask to be referred to another doctor to see if anything else can be done. Do you know what type of eye infection or have any more info about your condition?
By-the-way - Optometrists can Rx drugs (I'm in optometry school)
