It might be Subconjunctival hemorrhage which might be caused by: Minor eye trauma
Spontaneously with increased venous pressure
Strenuous Exercising
Coughing
Touching/widening eyes
Sneezing
Pulling extreme g-forces
Vomiting, particularly forced vomiting as seen in bulimia nervosa
Straining
Severe alcohol intoxication, leading to raised blood pressure
Blood dyscrasia (rare)
Severe hypertension
LASIK
Blood thinners, such as ginger, capsaicin, ginseng, garlic, aspirin, or Herba if taken in high doses or combined. These can also make the vessels in the eye more susceptible to the pressure causes listed above.
Meningococcal septicemia, scarlet fever, typhoid fever, cholera, rickettsia, malaria, and viruses (eg, influenza, smallpox, measles, yellow fever, sandfly fever).

or Diabetic retinopathy(if he/she has diabetes) or Hypertensive retinopathy(if he/she has high blood pressure)

it might be Pink Eye which is very contagious

conjunctivitis or pink eye which most people call it,is an infection of the eye. The eye is all blood shot irritated but also has pus that comes out of it,too. you have to go to the doctor for this to get an antibiotic to clear it up. Some people like to wear sunglasses the whole time they have it because it is very sensitive to light. It also is very contagious so you can even reinfect yourself so wash your hands if you touch it at all.

It could be pink eye, but it could also be irritation from the contacts and not necessarily infection. Try webmd.com and type in the symptoms. He should wear glasses until it goes away and keep his contacts out for a few days.

I have had both pink eye and a popped blood vessel in my eye... it is more likely that it is a popped vessel because with pink eye your eye just looks pink it should go away in two weeks u dont have to do anyting with it just wear sunscreen on your face and wear sun glasses
