Graves disease and eye problems.?

I have Hyperthyroid problems and about 2 months ago started having eye problems. Swollen, watery, etc, leading to double vision. I now have a prism in one spectacle lens. I'm in good care at Moorfields and the Whittington hospital. The condition seems stable now. Anyone with similar experience like to share what happened to them. how they coped and, hopefully, how things improved and when?

I have Graves too, but not the eye problems. My Endocrinologist told me that if you smoke you are more likely to have the bulging eyes that are associated with Graves. But the eye bulging and other problems are a normal part of Graves disease, sometimes to the extent of having to have surgery.Check out the following links, and others on webmd.

The eyes are affected by swelling of retro orbital tissues. When the donditiion has been under control for a while, I think your condition should improve.

My mother had Graves disease and the eye issue, too. When they got her thyroid levels back to normal (she was on Tapazole) her eye problems went away.

Well my 19 year young neice had "Graves-Desease" and none of us realized how important it was for her to take her medicine!! Not, even Shavon realized how important it was!! She was living with her only sybling, (sister) and finally got her diploma from high school, a job, and her first boyfriend... Grave's disease is caused by auto immune antibodies i.e. antibodies acting against your own body antigens.These antibodies attack both the thyroid and the exta-ocular muscles to give rise to Grave's disease.Regular medication can definitely control this condition.But the treatment is long term and u must take these medications very very regularly to ensure complete benefit..also have regular check-ups done and monitor your progress properly with your doctors
