How to stay fit with cancer? NY?

My mom is almost 49 and has always been in great shape...she even used to model.

Now that she is sick with cancer she hasn't had the energy to work out. From not working out, stress and the steriods she has gained close to 40lbs! She's now 5'7 and about 160lbs. I know that's not grossly over weight but she's very unhappy.
It's hard enough going through loosing your hair, eye lashes and eye brows but then to loose your whole body on top of it is a real blow to being so sick.
It doesn't look like she'll be getting better any time soon and I really want to help her feel a little more fit, it would really help her from being depressed.

She isn't strong enough for pilaties....I was thinking yoga but I don't know nor can I find anything that doesn't require belonging to a gym.

Besides at home dvd work outs, can anyone suggest something in the Suffolk County NY area?

Thank you in advance and godbless

Check with your local cancer association, as there are a number of things she can do - and right off the top, I'd say she should be thankful for having a kid like you, who is concerned and looking for solutions.
There is a program called Abreast in a Boat -- I don't know what kind of cancer your mom has, but this is designed for breast cancer survivors (and those going through the process). It's dragon boat paddling -- and it has become HUGE. Thousands of women are now involved in it, to the point where they even have their own regatta. A chapter began recently in Hawaii, but using outrigger canoes.
The biggest part of it is that it involves women who have gone through exactly the same thing, so they know how to help each other, much better than you or I could. Support from someone who has walked the walk is invaluable.
My point is, the cancer society is involved in all these efforts, and can likely point you in the direction of a program that can help your mom at the stage she is now at.
Bless you both, and I hope all goes well for her.
