Eye Moles Again!!?

Hi, i asked a question a couple of days ago about Moles in the back of the eye, when my wife went to the doctor to be referred to a eye specialist - the doctor could not see this "mole" but her optician could! surely a doctor should eb able to see it - what if my wife never wore glasses it would never have been picked up! Also if it is one of the safe ones what is the % that it could turn into anything that will need surgery! As this is a form of cancer has nayone heard of this being fatal to anybody. Thanks for your time again.

I have recently been diagnosed with a mole on my right eye. I have no symptons whatsoever and only went to my opticians for a routine contact lense check. I was referred to my local eye hospital who have confirmed there is a definite mole there but it is not malignant as is not raised - I had to go back this week to have it photographed and it will now be annually checked. I have never heard of it before either and have been very concerned - anyone else with any stories please contact me. I am assured mine is not life threatening but it has been very worrying

"eye mole" usually means they're talking about a choroidal "nevus":

usually totally benign, but rarely turn into or are mistaken for melanoma. if it was on her skin, you'd have it biopsied. but if its in your eye you obviously cannot so that. just photo it, take measurements, etc and watch it to see if it gets larger, changes color, changes appearance, etc etc.

lol almost no regular doctor can see this kind of stuff (although some of them think they can). it takes training and the right equipment. i dont know a single "primary care physician" who knows how to find a nevus. this is for eye docs only, pretty much. so as far as this statement goes:

"the doctor could not see this "mole" but her optician could! surely a doctor should eb able to see it"

NO. they cant. need an optician/optometrist/ophthalmologist to find this stuff.
