Would being on hormone replacement therapy decrease sexual desire? |
I'm 22 and been on hormone replacement therapy because my body does not produce hormones and estrogen on its own. At first I felt sexual desire and then after that I have no sexual desire whatsoever. I've been on the pills for 3-4yrs Talk to your doctor. You may need to have one of your pills adjusted. It's normal. The therapy is creating lots of estrogen (and so are the pills) and this will you give you low sexual desire. It's just what it does. actually, the therapy is to control mood swings,..increase sexual desire,..etc.,... I have been on HRT for nearly 29 years and still have plenty of desire. BUT I don't take progesterone, it made me really mean and hateful. I was only on it for about the first year. Your oestrogen dosage may be too high, causing oestrogen dominance. Some doctors do not realise that it is not just your ovaries that produce oestrogen, but also the fat cells, liver and adrenal glands. Even women who have gone through Menopause will often still produce adequate amounts of oestrogen. It all depends on what kind of hormone replacment thereapy your on. If your body does not produce enuff estrogen then your desire will go down and when you have the replacment drugs to put it back in, then yes,...you desire will pick back up....and NO it's not normal....When the pituitary gland fails to produce the right amounts of hormones for the body, not only does your sex drive goes down, it will have all sorts of other affects too, mood swings, depression, pian in the muscles and joints even memory. TRUST ME on this because i'm goin thru the same thing too........and i'm a guy.....and if your Growth hormone is being affected then you need to go seen an Endocrinologist and have them do LABS and have them secedule you for an MRI to look at your pituiary gland! You might be missing a tiny bit of testosterone (yes, women do produce a "male" hormone, but only about 1/10 as much as guys). Ask your Dr. about it.... |
