What is the mortality rate on esophageal cancer?

What is the mortality rate on esophageal cancer?

I'm sorry to tell you that it's very high...nearly 99%. Catching it early is always best and hopefully it can still be managed in Stage 1. Please spend some time doing some research and getting a second opinion. Best Wishes!

That depends on the age of this person, is this person a candidate for surgery? or stenting which offers similar relief like surgery and costs less. What stage is this person in? staging is the process used to find out if cancer cells have spread within the esophagus or to other parts of the body.
For instance a stage one means cancer has invaded from the epithelium into the lamina propria of the sub mucosa, the cancer has not spread and deeper or to any other part of the body. Survival rates refer to the percentage of people who live at least five years from the time the are diagnosed. Of course many people live much longer than five years. We have improved a great deal with medicine in the last 10 years.According to survival rates by stage in 1998 stage one percent of patients 10 percent- 5 years survival -41 percent.
Like I said we have come along way with medicine and a great deal depends on the treatment given. Wish you the best of luck and if its not you wish them the best of luck. Hoped this helped even if its not what you wanted to hear, but have faith lots of people survive longer than estimations given, it just depends.

I lost my father to esophageal cancer back in 2000. We found out he had it November of 99 and he died March 30, 2000. The tumor had grown through a major artery and he started vomitting blood and that is how we found out he had it. They tried to do surgery to take out part of his esophagus, but once they opened him up they found it had spread to his liver and lymph nodes.

On the other hand though, my neighbor was diagnosed with esophageal cancer almost 9 years ago and he went through surgery and they took out part of his esophagus and moved his stomach and he is cancer free now.

My dad died at the age of 52, my neighbor was 29 when diagnosed. I think it depends on the stage of the cancer, the age, and of course God.
