Suffering from hiatus hernia and esophageal ulcers?

Am suffering from esophageal ulcers and hiatus hernia. The doc has prescribed "sucralfate and rabeprozale sodium".I have been on this medication for two weeks now.How long does it take for the ulcers to go away and how do I get to know if the medicines are working.I was also operated for head and neck cancer twice in the past and have also undergone radio therapy twice in the past, the last one recently.Would be grateful if someone with a similiar condition could enlighten me.

Two weeks is not a long time for the type throat damage that you have. Most adults have small hiatal hernias to some degree or another but your medical history puts you in a different situation. It will take at least 2-3 months for the ulcers to heal and you might be on the Aciphex (rabeprazole) for the rest of your life. Aciphex is a good medicine and you can expect improvement as time goes on. The sucrafate is more of a fast acting antacid for immediate relief of heartburn. If I were you I'd keep taking both medicines regularly and continue to see my Dr for regular check ups. Your past history puts you at high risk of cancer recurrence and the ulcers put you at a somewhat higher risk of developing adenocarcinoma where the throat ulcers border on your stomach and esophagus. I think your throat will continue to improve if you give it more time. good luck

just use bonjela and stop worrying
