I think i have acid reflux but i don't fit the profile?!? |
ok please bear with me, i am 17 years old and am a very petite girl. i never eat fast food or foods that are high in fat. i also don't eat high acidic foods either but last year i started getting this extreme pain in my sternum when swallowing that lasts for about 10-15 seconds at its worst and then there's always just an irritating light pain in my sternum when i don't swallow. it got so bad last year that i had to go to the ER and get morphine injections and i went to the doctor yesterday and they gave me xanax and a really strong pain medication. Also my dad has esophageal cancer because of acid reflux and i'm wondering if i should be more worried about all this? i have a referral to go to a GI specialist but i always end up canceling because i feel better and hate going to the doctor when i don't feel as if i have a problem. what do other people think? sorry this was long. You should get an EGD done (esophagogastroduodenoscopy). They'll take biopsies of your esophagus. This procedure is pain free... they'll give you medications to sedate you and make you comfortable.
