If someone was diagnosed with the Epstein Barr virus, but never had mono...?

...is it possible to transmit the EB virus to another person? And if so, what about 5 years after being diagnosed? I heard that once you have EB you will always have it.

EBV (Epstein Barr Virus) is permanent. The following is a good tutorial on EBV:

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/tutor...

You may have contracted EBV and mononucleosis as a child but had virtually no symptoms. There is no test for mononucleosis, which is diagnosed via signs/symptoms. EBV, however, is diagnosed via the presence of antibodies that your body makes to fight the virus.

Some people shed the EBV in their saliva weeks, months, and even years after infection. However, there is no need to be paranoid, as another poster stated about 90-95% of us are exposed to EBV by the time we're adults.

It is possible to never have an active case of Mono but still have been exposed. I have been diagnosed with EB and have not transmitted it to anyone. However, when I do have a flare up explain this to my boyfriend who is very understanding. My doctor told me that it is non-contagious, that it is a reactivation of the old virus that is still with me. Yes, once you have it...you always have it.

everyone *95% of the worlds population carries the ebv virus.
it's part of being human. your normal and have nothing to worry about. a small percentage of the human race will develope certain cancers related to ebv.
if you have symptoms that don't go away, it could be chronic.

good luck
