Does the Epstein-Barr virus cause unexplained fevers, weakness and swollen, painful nodules under the arms?

I had mono two years ago, but I've been left with severe exhaustion which has only recently upgraded (or downgraded, shall I say) to one-day unexplained high fevers, terrible sore throats, and extraordinary weakness (besides the obvious fatigue, insomnia, etc, etc). Now, I have very sore, large, swollen nodules (lymph nodes) under my arms which seem to reappear whenever I feel very weak or sick. Are these symptoms of Epstein-Barr, and should I get it checked by a doctor?

Also, any suggestions as to any remedies to help lessen the severity of the symptoms?

I have EBV and have had it for about 10 years. It is an extremely frustrating thing to have b/c 5 out of 10 doctors don't feel like it is a serious thing and don't actually believe in it. So, if your doc pushes you off to the side and doesn't acknowledge you and your symptoms, you need to change docs!

I have experienced all of the same things that you have described. You basically have to treat the symptoms as they come. You will probably also find that you will eventually get (or have) Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia. This worsens the symptoms. Take care of yourself! Don't drink and smoke, GET A LOT OF SLEEP and stay away from stressful situations. TRY to eat right...these things help when you can apply them.

I know that there are special clinics that help with these symptoms. I live in the DFW area and there is one south of me. I haven't had the 'pleasure' of going...can't afford it! I have 2 children and it completely runs me down...I don't have the energy to get out of the house much!

We just have to stay positive / optimistic people and have a good supportive family to stand beside us (also a good doc would help!)

Feel free to write me anytime and I will try and help!!!

Also, I came down with something called Chilblains on my feet and these are attributed to EBV, they occur in the winter time....there is always something associated with it!!

Good luck to you!!! :)

EPSTEIN-BAR IS A LIFELONG ILLNESS THAT YOU JUST HAVE TO LEARN TO LIVE WITH OR ELSE YOU'LL GO BONKERS....ENJOY YOUR GOOD DAYS.............TOLERATE YOUR BAD ONES.

yes- all those symptoms are part of chronic EBV infection. chronic fatigue syndrome is a known sequelae. the swollen lymph node may just be a benign indication of infection, but keep in mind that lymphoma is also a possible complication of EBV infection. if the lymph nodes don't shrink at all, you need to get them biopsied to rule out lymphoma.

the best online medical site is here. www.medlineplus.gov type in the illness. tons of good info.
