Epilepsy and cop lights?

My boyfriend has epilepsy. He's on medication so i'm not to scared but yesterday night I was driving him home and we passed like 7 cop cars with his lights on. We were all so in the Parade of Lights in Denver this year (we're both in a band) and we were behind a fire truck. All in all, there were a lot of flashing lights which got me to thinking:

What do the cop cars and fire truck's lights to to epileptic people? I know the "light kind of epilepsy" (thats what we call it because i can't pronounce or spell it) is really rare but is that dangerous.

I'm scared about driving with him at night because of this :(

He doesn't ever have just small petti mal ones, if he has the small ones then there is going to be a grand mal in 10- 20 minutes

If your boyfriend is on proper medications, is being treated by a doctor, and his seizures are under control there should be no danger.

When you are tested for "light kind of epilepsy" you are usually off medication (or without your morning dose) and sleep deprived. They administer the test starting with slow strobe lights and proceed to a rapid strobe. The slow strobe lights (like that of a police car) are annoying, but usually do not trigger a seizure if you are on the proper dose of medication. The more rapid strobe lights tend to light up the EEG testing of the brain and cause a reaction and possible seizure (if not on medication).

I would be more concerned with strobe lights at rock concerts, they tend to leave me with a bad feeling and I cover my eyes. Best advise is a good doctor, proper meds, plenty of sleep and try to keep stress under control. If the meds are below minimal levels and your sleep deprived you are setting yourself up for a seizure.

I've heard them called 'photo-seizures' and I sometimes get them. But they're not like full-blown seizures at all. I never lose consciousness, but I'll suddenly see flashing pin-pricks of light that do not obscure my vision at all. And I never lose consciousness. If your boyfriend takes his meds, you're probably entirely safe with him :)

actually i heard of this, but from what ive read i believe its less than 6 percent of epileptics people can have a seizure triggered by light/picture.

i heard this because there was an episode of Pokemon i dont watch it but, there was one episode were the contrast of the picture was so high it caused some kids to seizure. It kinda scared me. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denn%C5%8D_... )

But I mean as long as your boyfriends on medication it shouldnt be a big deal. And if he has a seizure, your there to help him.
