Traumatic Epilepsy/ EEG?, Help Please!?

I was in a rollover about 6 weeks ago and now the doctors now believe I may have Traumatic Epilepsy. Can anyone tell me what this is, symptoms, severity of seizures any other symptoms associated with TE. Also there was nothing in my CT scan or MRI to really suggest I have Epilepsy other for my short 鈥渟eizures.鈥?Can CT scans not detect Epilepsy? And I am also going for an EEG, what is that?

Thanks a lot for you answers

Basically the doctors are saying that you may have epilepsy as a result of head trauma. You could suffer from various kinds of seizures including Grand Mal seizures where you lose consciousness and begin suffering from convulsions.

They ran tests to see if they could find anything abnormal in your brain scan to suggest where the seizures may be originating from inside your brain. It is very common for CAT scans, MRIs and even sleep deprived EEGs to come back completely normal. It doesn't mean you don't have epilepsy.

When you have an EEG, you generally prepare for it by having to stay awake the night before. You go into the hospital and you have a whole bunch of small electrodes with little suction cup like ends attached to your head with an adhesive (it's really gooey and feels gross afterwards). Over a period of 20-30 minutes they run tests that are hooked up to a little monitor to detect any changes in brain wave patterns. It is preferred that you are able to fall asleep as the brain waves are more likely to be detected if abnormal while you are sleeping.

I had all of those tests done and my results were normal. I have suffered from several Grand Mal seizures with an unknown cause. Mine are stress induced and have triggers. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me...

Take care and good luck...

P.S. The EEG is not painful at all - just makes your hair feel gritty and goopy afterwards...
