Epilepsy was discovered a long time ago and I can't remember how it did get it's name or who discovered it. A lot of famous people all over the world had it and some famous people living today have it.I had it start with me when I was 22 yrs old, it came from a scar on my left front temporal lobe. It will effect both male and females , and if you have it as a young child chances are you will outgrow it. I was treated for mine with medications ,but would grow immune to the medications. I had MRI's ,EEG's and other tests performed on me to locate where the problem was and when it was pinpointed I had my operation. I had the operation 10 yrs ago and have been seizure free since. As for life expectancy, just be careful when you have the epilepsy and you will be fine. I quit driving on my own for 3 years and felt good about it. I do know if you stress yourself out it will make you have a seizure, so try and stay calm like I did and laugh all the time.

From my understanding the only real effective way to treat epilepsy is medication, there is also a procedure where the doctor will place a device that is kind of like a pacemaker on the brain, and it will have a wire run down to your collarbone. I'm not sure on all of the details, but I'm sure you can google it.
