My father has epilepsy is there a chance i can give it to my child? |
i am currently taken a human heredity course in college, and we are currently studying the pedigree chart, which has made me ask this question... my father was not born with epilepsy but developed later as a child from getting hit with a rock, his aunt has it also by a head trauma. my mother doesnt have any cases of epilepsy in her family. my pediatrician said if i dont develop it before puberty i will never get epilepsy. un fortunatley for me i was involved in a car accident when i was 18. my head hit the windsheild and now i have a small form of it. i have the twitching or as i was told they are petit mal siezures. i refused meds because i know how to handle it over time. Now im just wondering if it can be passed down being that none of us had it since birth, or does that even matter? it is funny how my dad, my aunt, and i all got it from a head trauma, like it was always there and this just brought it out. i know i have to have a blood test b4 a baby, but im just curious anyway.. In this case it looks like the answer is "no." I think that it is not hereditary... sure... Epilepsy is not inherited and cannot be passed down so know you won't give it to any children you have in the future. i dont think but ask a neurologist for better my soon has epilepsy and is terrible it was maybe at the moment of birth it was to slow i pray for oll 麓persons that have it lets pray My mom had it. I did a research paper on it once. It is possible, but rare to pass it on. Usually something has to trigger it. My family kept it a secret til she died so I have no idea how she got it...sorry. First, you are making a mistake by not taking the meds for the petit mal seizures. I had epilepsy start on me when I was 22 and took meds , without the meds you will not get any better, only worse. I do not know of epilepsy being passed down thru the bloodline so to speak, I am the first person on both sides of my parents family to have it. As for your family, look at how each person ended up with it, your father because of being hit in the head, your great aunt because of head trauma and yourself because of a blow to the head in a car wreck. |
