How long should I expect to feel ill with endocarditis? It's been 4 weeks and I'm still almost bedridden.

Treatment for endocarditis can last from four to eight weeks, depending on the bug that caused it. How long it takes to recover is different for each person. However, being in bed for a long time can cause deconditioning--meaning the muscles have lost some of their function due to lack of use. It can take a long time to get this strength back, but it won't come back on it's own. Regular exercise will help--but take it in small bites. For example, if you can walk to the bathroom, try to add a few more steps a little at a time. Also talk to your doctor about physical therapy. Often they can send a therapist to your house to develop an exercise program that is right for you.

typically two to six weeks

I'm not familiar with the human belief you mentioned, but my mother's mother was once bed ridden for years, before she passed on. Then toward the end she did get up and move around, slowly at times.

Are you still be treated or being closely monitored by your physician? Many times it takes along time to recover from this type of infection. Be very mindful and check in with your doctor often. Have you had a echocardiogram lately or any labs drawn? Good luck!
