My 6yr old son soils his pants several times a day when he does go. It's frustrating a day or two after doing laundry he has no clean underwear or shorts to wear. (Even though he only soils underwear, the shorts still smell bad) And no matter how well I rinse his pants out, when I wash them they still kind of stink! (Even other clothes I wash with them smell!!!) I'm also confused about the condition beacause I read on the internet that kids with encopresis don't know when they're going to have a bowel movement, but my son does know. He's a pretty smart kid, but everything I've tried fails. I had a couple appts. with reg. pediatricia that have done me NO good. Next month he has an appt with a pedi gastro specialist at Childrens Hosp. They say their treatment method is to empty his bowels first, then miralax for up to 1 year. I know with encopresis it stretches out their colons......What helps "shrink" colon back to reg. size. Is it hard or even necessary to re-potty train? www.google.com has a great deal of information that you could use to find your answers , while yahoo answer is more likely to be better for people's opinions.. thanks. I'm going through this with my son right now. I have him seeing both a pediatrician and a child counselor. Here's an article I wrote, if you are interested:
