How would one go about treating crushed legs without any possibility of emergency services?

Ok, so one of the characters in my novel was a bit of an idiot and got her legs crushed by a heap of rubble. Well done, Louisa, well done. Fortunately for her, there is a dashing young medical student on his way to help her. Only the thing is, they're kind of stuck in a public bathroom, and they don't have much hope of getting out any time soon. So, at his disposal he has plenty of water, cleaning supplies from the staff cupboard, possibly paper towels, and, well, apart from things that people maybe have in their handbags and stuff, that's about it... but if you can think of anything else that might be helpful and feasible to find in a public bathroom, it's flexible.

So, what would my inventive young medical student do? Also, is Louisa likely to die? If so, how long would she hold out for? Thank you, any answers recieve my eternal gratitude. =)

Well has the materials been taken off her legs? If so, how bad were her injuries? Usually any type of severe crushing injury can lead to death when the object is lifted off the person, because the object was actually like a tourniquet stopping the bleeding. The best thing the young stud can do is to apply a tourniquet(s) if any parts of her legs are accessible, so when and if the materials are removed she will not bleed out. Better would be if he could start two IVs 16 Gauge to help replace lost fluids and give meds when appropriate.

Let me recall my medical training. A person has a crushed leg... find a tought plank and wrap the plank with clean cloth to keep the broken bones in place. Don't move the leg too much or squeeze it. If you can't find any pieces of straight wood relocate the person to a safer place before the medics arrive. Although, depending on the condition of the crushed leg, it is the doctor's call to have it amputated or fixed by inserting some kind iron rods.

oh man oh man...i have a brilliant idea! if she was in the bathroom under a pile of rubble, they *may* be able to conjure up some sturdy junk for a splint-like thing. one can also imagine the dashing young medical student to rip off his shirt, wrapping it around poor Louisa's leg. :) good luck!
