How important are electrolytes?

If you loose too many, what happens?

An electrolyte is a substance containing free ions that behaves as an electrically conductive medium. Because they generally consist of ions in solution, electrolytes are also known as ionic solutions, but molten electrolytes and solid electrolytes are also possible. They are sometimes referred to in abbreviated jargon as lytes.

electrolytes are needed for so many body functions. They are essential and without them you will die. You can replenish them by salt and potassium and or drinking gatoraide

Remember the lady who died drinking too much water , trying to win a radio contest? She lost her electrolytes and DIED!!!

You can DIE!!!
Some of the signs are fast heart beat, sick to your stomach, real weak, and dizzines.

Please get to the doctor before it is too late!!!!!!! This is nothing to wait out on.

Electrolytes are important because they are what your cells (especially nerve, heart, muscle) use to maintain voltages across their cell membranes and to carry electrical impulses (nerve impulses, muscle contractions) across themselves and to other cells. Your kidneys work to keep the electrolyte concentrations in your blood constant despite changes in your body.....

When you exercise heavily, you lose electrolytes in your sweat, particularly sodium and potassium. These electrolytes must be replaced to keep the electrolyte concentrations of your body fluids constant. So, many sports drinks have sodium chloride or potassium chloride added to them. They also have sugar and flavorings to provide your body with extra energy and to make the drink taste better.
