Are too many electrolytes(found in Gatorade) bad for you? |
Are too many electrolytes(found in Gatorade) bad for you? Yes electrolyte balance is very important and too many or not enough is not good for you. You do lose a certain amount of electrolytes like sodium, potassium and calcium when you sweat, have been vomiting, had diarrhea or been urinating excessively. Plain H2O is fine if you are just thirsty and are NOT really dehydrated. If you are truly dehydrated you need to replace some those electrolytes you have lost as well as the water. However you want to be careful not over do the electrolytes. The thing is our body has a natural chemistry in it. We want a good fluid and electrolyte balance. So yes, too much of a good thing is bad. On the same note, you can overintoxicate yourself with water too. There have been people who have actually died from water intoxication. gatorade also has a lot of carbs/sugar, i used to drink it, not anymore as i am still trying to lose weight and dont need useless sugar, |
