Do you think that elderly abuse is a problem that needs to be solved?

If you think that elder abuse a serious problem could you tell me why?

Yes. I watched a special years back on how criminals can move from one state to another. Even if they were caught abusing an elder (in a nursing home I'm talking about) they were able to move to another state and often ended up in the same field doing the same thing again.

But there are a lot of sick people in this world so I imagine they treat the infirmed very poorly.

I would like to think that is the exception to the rule however but it's likely there is a bad apple in every bunch.

Never mind what goes on at homes behind closed doors. It's hard to care for the elderly and the stress often drives the uncaring to physical or emotional violence towards them, whether it's their own parents or others in their charge.

We go carolling in a nursing home every year with the Girl Guides and I often choke up seeing some of these old people who just lie there in a feces-stinking room and you can just tell no one hardly even goes to see them. Just that in itself is a kind of abuse isn't it?

At least the Chinese have it right and honour their elders.

As a former caregiver, I never raised my hand to any of my clients. No matter what is going on in a caregiver's life, they have no right to abuse a defenseless person of any age. It is a "witnessless" crime as the person being abused may not be believed by other staff/people. The abused's complaints are casually dismissed.
