Daughther has a broken elbow... How fast should surgery happen? |
My daughter has a broken elbow confirmed by two orthopeadic doctors? Her pediatrician said that she should have been admitted at the hospital since the injuries to the elbow are very dangerous... but bothe doctors have something diffrent to say. One said they are dangerous and that surgery should be done but none really gave us a sooner appointment that monday for surgery!!! It has been about has been about four to five days by the time surgery is performed?? Can that complicate things more for her? She is 11 years old and fell on her heely shoes/ fracture of the humeral condylar region My sister broke her elbow, and never had surgery for it, all they did for her was they gave her a sling and told her to move it every once in a while because its a joint and if they put a cast it could get stuck like that forever. My sister is fine now she bends her elbow just like any other person. I don't think surgery is needed. I had that type of fracture once, the orthopod put a cast on and said to leave it alone so I think the wait will not hurt her as long as the elbow is immobilized. she will be asleep thank goodness when they do it=they will have to re break it to set it right=the dumbos should have did it right away A lot of times they have to wait for swelling to go down to set and cast fractures. I would wager that is what's going on. The doctors do know what they're doing. Don't fret! The longer the wait, the more complicated it can become. Because the bone and/or muscle can start to heal itself into the broken position, and than the docs. will have to rebreak it in order to fix it. But, because of her age, she should heal just fine. These types of injurys can be more difficult in older people because it takes longer to heal. |
