I have a long term elbow injury and the pain killers the doc gave me are not always effective?

when i play my guitar i have the pain all day

Ask your doctor if there is any other help available (such as physio) or surgery.
I have been down the munching painkillers like smarties for severe pain but its caught up with me after about 10 years. My kidneys have been damaged and I face a future which may well include dialysis and/or a transplant.

Maybe u should get surgery

:( poor thing

heres a hug! xx

Not sure, you really need a proper medical assessment, which can't be done through a site such as this.

I had a 'similar' problem and, although it was a pain in my elbow, it turned out to be a nerve problem. It was my Ulna nerve, and I was given physiotherapy at my local hospital and within a few months I was pain free. I ocassionaly still do my physio exercises, just in case.

As I say though, you really need medical advice. If the tablets that the doctor gave you don't work, tell him/her. If they're unable to help you, ask them to refer to someone who will.

Have you tried bio magnetic therapy? I suffer with neuropathy in feet and lower legs. I place a small plaster with a small magnet on each ankle, and it helps reduce the pain to a manageable level. They are cheap to buy, I got my present ones on e bay. The 1st lot I bought I got from a pound shop!!!
If this is not any use, or you don't want to try, then ask to be referred to the pain clinic at your local hospital. they can be very helpful, without adding additional meds.

can you afford or have you tried pysio? i had tennis elbow which was very painful, went to physio which was expensive at 拢20 for 30 minutes but it was very effective and after 15 sessions it was cured and its not returned ......... touch wood!

Learn to play the guitar the other way round. Get some stronger painkillers. Don't play the guitar at all...

Inflammation is the probable cause and taking 'comperessed chemicals' is bad for your kidneys and liver as a residue can build up and cause serious damage.
Use a natural anti-inflammatory product that such as Xango
juice .

Ask your GP about corticosteroid injections into the elbow joint itself. It does work in most cases, and will perhaps require a repeat in 6 months.

Accunpuncture without a shadow of a doubt, it cured my dads frozen shoulder, it's brilliant.

the same thing as me when you were a kid your parents probably had you on anitbiotics every time you got sick and after having a lot of antibiotics when you get older your system gets immune to them so they wont work when i was little every single pain i got i got an antibiotic for and now not any medicine can make me better i have been sick since november and it is now Feb 4 my medicine isnt working i am immune so the only choice you have left is healing yourseld you sit down close you eyes and talk to yourself tell you how much you like you and tell yourself your pain is going to go away and just relax that is the only thing you can do now oh and when u have kids dont give them tons of antibiotic everytime they are sick

Strains are injuries that affect muscles or tendons, thick bands that attach muscles to bones. They occur in response to a quick tear, twist, or pull of the muscle. Strains are an acute type of injury that results from overstretching or over contraction. Pain, weakness, and muscle spasms are common symptoms experienced after a strain occurs.

Sprains are injuries that affect ligaments, thick bands of cartilage that attach bone to bone. They occur in response to a stretch or tear of a ligament. Sprains are an acute type of injury that results from trauma such as a fall or outside force that displaces the surrounding joint from its normal alignment. Sprains can range from a mild ligamentous stretch to a complete tear. Bruising, swelling, instability, and painful movement are common symptoms experienced after a sprain occurs.

RICE is the acronym used for Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. It is used as the best initial treatment of soft tissue injuries such as sprains, strains, and contusions. The combination of RICE helps reduce inflammation that occurs after acute injury. It is important to remember that the earlier this treatment is put into place, the more effective it is.

Rest: Rest and protect the injured area.

Ice: Apply ice to the injury. The cold will reduce swelling and pain at the injured site. This step should be done as soon as possible. Apply the frozen object to the area for 20 minutes three times a day for the first 48 hours.

Compression: Compress the injured site. This will decreases swelling of the injured region. Although the wrap should be snug, make sure it is not too tight as this can cause numbness, tingling, or increased pain.

Elevation: Elevate the injured area above the level of the heart as much as possible. This technique will also assist in reducing the amount of swelling to the injured site.

Once the pain and swelling are eliminated, you should start gradual range of motion exercises but not to the point of pain. Each day your range of motion will increase slightly. Continue until you have complete range of motion. Than start gentle strengthening exercises to re-build the strength in the elbow.

The stiffness will go away over time.

Good Luck

I suspect you have either "tennis" or "golfer's" elbow.

You don't have to play either to have these symtoms. I know plasterers who have this. It is also common for people who use computers continually.

It is probably a repetitive strain injury (RSI). You will need to rest it.

Keep it iced - this will reduce the inflammation allowing the healing process to occur.

Hi, try looking at the website www.enikken.com.au/deborahmcneil and click on the link for products. Look at the elbow wrap. I had a man who had no movement in his elbow and was on the verge of getting injections to help him. I gave him the elbow wrap and within 1 hour the pain was gone and he had movement in his elbow.

Different pain control methods and maybe a second opinion. Lay off the guitar until resolved.
