Is it possible to recuperate range of motion in elbow after 30 yrs with only 32% range of motion.? |
Old elbow injury.I have been told by an orthopedist that it cannot be done because the tendons and ligaments cannot be stretched.Perhaps with todays advancements in medicine it can be done .Any surgeons out there ? Thanks! I am not a surgeon , sorry !! Get well soon :)) well, i would think that physical therapy will get some of it back. My wife has had some surprising results with wrist motion/pain using something called Coenzyme Q10. It's supposed to be for skin and circulation, but seems to be working on joints and muscles too. Couldn't hurt! see a Orthopedic surgeon. Not sure where you are from but Northwestern in Chicgo is one of the best hospitals for that and other things. Good Luck. Just had surgery there myself on the 3rd. You may want to begin taking calcium supplements. There are some underground studies being done on calcium and some other natural minerals that help the body repair itself that conventional medicine doesn't accept yet. That AND mind power will help you. An elbow joint is a difficult one to work on, but it's not as bad as a rotator cuff. There is still hope for you. Take it slow but in this case "no pain, no gain" won't exactly work. Stretching is what you need but it shouldn't really hurt. See if your insurance will pay for Occupational Therapy at least they can teach you what to do at home. Bally's and such can do the same thing, if they have an OT there. YOu can find OTs on your own as well. Good Luck. No. Initially the elbow injury caused pain and altered the bio-mechanics of the joint. Later on by not using the joint it tightened up and you lost your ROM. The ortho is correct the joint capsule, tendons, ligaments and the initial injury, depending on how it healed, are shortened. You can try exercises but you will not gain anything or very little. 30 years is a long time, the body has an amazing memory. |
