Prednisone for an elbow? |
I have a nerve injury in my elbow from leaned on it too long. The doc (general practioner, MD) called it ulnar nerve neuropathy. He put me in a sling, gave me a Celestone shot in the hip, and put me on 20mg of Prednisone TWICE a day. The prednisone has all kinds of nasty side effects for me, the least of which is insomnia. I know it can be used to treat arthritis, but never heard of it for a nerve injury. Anyone else have any experience with this kind of injury and/or use of Prednisone to treat it? Was it successful? How long did it take to work? I read that I can't just stop taking it now, that I have to be "weaned" off of it. Is this true? I've only taken it for 2 days so far. 40 mg a day seems extreme, and he nor the pharmacist told me anything about side effects or drug interactions. (Even though I told the doc I was taking Advil for pain, which is a no-go with it) Have called the doc back twice, and not getting good answers from him. Should I go get a second opinion? Thx Yes you should get a 2nd opinion but not from people on the web. Please stop by a pharmacy and express your concern to a pharmacist, who should be able to help you. If the pharmacist doesn't give you a good answer, he's not doing his job (Lots of them lost their passion for the profession and become lazy). Leave him and call another pharmacy. Yes, get a second opinion... if you want. |
