Due to an industrial injury some years ago I have been forced to use two elbow crutches to walk .?

Recently however I have developed a pain just above the centre of chest bone whenever I lift myself out of a chair.

As you can imagine my wife is concerned that since I am only 49 years old I should have my heart checked out, but I DO NOT suffer from any other symptom that would suggest a heart attack or angeina.

Could it be that I have simply over worked a muscle whilst lifting my body weight out of the chair - I tend to do this as I have weakened muscles on my legs.

Sorry to ask such a difficult question !

Hun, its seems like its concerning you and your family, so ff to the doctors now and get this checked. Probably nothing but better to be safe than sorry.

Good luck and hope you feel better soon x

Go see your GP asap.
I gave myself a chest hernia when I had crutches.
Better safe than sorry.. :)

Sometimes when there are heart problems (or other problems) there isn't a long check list of symptoms.
By having even one symptom, the body is saying something is not right.
You are obviously loved by your family and even if you aren't stressed, your family may be going out of their brains with concern they may lose you.

Alternatively, yes, you may have pull a pectoralis muscles from the strain of lifting yourself. Either way, please see a doctor and prove to your family if you have to, that you are ok.

If you only have the pain when lifting yourself out of your chair then the likelihood is that you've just pulled a muscle.
But for your peace of mind, and that of your family, you should get yourself checked out by a doctor.
Do it asap, you'll feel heaps better for it!!

Thats probably exactly why you experience pain now. Not only the position in which you have hold yourself due to the crutches, but the consistent and chronic use of your chest muscles to lift yourself all play a role in the pain. Just be sure to check with your doc and don't make the mistake of assuming any chest pains in the future are related to your injury. Be aware of the type and location of the chest pain so as not to mistake it in the future for a cardiac thing. I think you should also talk with the lawyer who handled your initial claim - maybe youre entitled to additional compensation now. Worth a shot, dont ya think? And maybe think about a walker too...less strain on your upper body and back.

go to your doc

You may well have just pulled a muscle, but it would be a bit sad to be proved wrong the hard way, don't you think?!
Don't assume, go to your GP and get it checked out.
Good luck!

It could be your crutches doing this. See your GP. Maybe a referral to the physio department will help. Do you need crutches, or can you use 2 sticks. A fisher stick has a more comfortable grip.
