How should i sleep with my fractured elbow? |
i just injured my self while playing basketball last sunday (23/09/07) and i went straight to the hospital and i had an x-ray.However they told me that i have fractured my elbow and have to wear a slinger and take painkillers. right now i can twist my arm but it does give me alot of pain also while trying to straighten it out. is there any possitive points anyone can give me? like how should i sleep and should i try twisting/stretching it? i dont want to make my minor injury to go major so i would really appriciate it if anyone can help thx. no it is not casted they told me i should just wear a sling. thx for the replies apriciate it. You can take some pills to control your pain and you can sleep in the opposite side to your fractured elbow. I mean, if your fractured elbow is the right, you should sleep to the left side and vice versa. It's very important to maintain the elbow in a quiet position, i mena, you musn't move your elbow, because this could bring some problems. Why isn't it in a cast? You'd have no problem sleeping then. Carefully as you can on the side away from the injury. don't the only thing i can think of is getting someone to tighten your sling just at night so that your arm is tighter to your chest thus restricting movement. My first query would be why is not plastered? Even so sleep on the opposite side. From past experience I can tell you your body will adjust and stop you from turning. As for movement, before anything else I'd want advice from the doctor or a physiotherapist. I wish you luck with it and a swift healing. Why is your arm not in a cast? As if fractured it is usually put into one, if it was me i would be off back to A&E or my Dr for more advice or a second opinion!!!! Other wise just try sleeping on your back with your bad arm resting on your body, i hope you get this sorted and have a good night's sleep. TRY SLEEPING ON YOUR BACK WITH A PILLOW UNDERNEATH IT FOR SUPPORT I fractured my elbow this weekend too! I've been placing a pillow next to me and resting my arm on it while I sleep. It's the only thing that has worked for me. |
