I have what's called tennis elbow. It hurts quite a bit when I move my arm.? |
My question is: When can I resume any physical activity, namely weight lifting, and how should I treat this injury? What should I refrain from doing? Good ol' tennis elbow! This is a very common injury. This painful injury is due to inflammation or small tears of the forearm muscles and tendons on the lateral side of the elbow. Overloading of the forearm muscles, often due to faulty backhand technique, especially overemphasizing the wrist, can cause the affliction. Tennis elbow is typically treated with rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE) as well as NSAIDs. Should the condition become chronic, surgery may be required. I've had that 2. It depends actually. Mine lasted up 2 3 weeks b4 it was normal again, but I was still able 2 do bunches of things. It isn't a severe injury, so as long as it doesn't seem 2 b hurting ur arm 2 much, whatever you do should b fine. BTW, u have tennis elbow cuz ur not hitting the ball in the center...:] thats what its going to do Go to the nearest pharmacy and look in the section with supports for athletic injuries. They should have bands that strap around the forearm for the relief of true tennis elbow pain. tennis elbow requires rest!!, mine was so bad i struggled to even brush my teeth!!, i had 5 cortisone injections (over a period of 11 months), then finally surgery, which was the best thing ever, pretty drastic, but it was the only thing that worked, that was over 3 years ago and no problems since. |
