Excruciating Right Hip pain, any suggestions? (besides what I've tried already)?

My joints dislocate because I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (http://www.ednf.org/). I am a Hyper-mobile Type & recently I've been having excruciating pain in my right hip. I have bursitis in both hips, & I suffer pain in my SI joint as well. Today the pain was simply unbearable; I got very little sleep last night & was crying when the pain woke me @ noon. I'm on Fentanyl 100 micrograms. My pain management doctor prescribes me Oxycontin 10 mg's when I need something extra for these times, so I took one. Usually this works but not today. 6 hours passed, I took a 2nd one. That helped but I fell asleep & when I woke up, was in pain again. I've tried a hot bath, heating pads (wrapped around the hip, & on my SI joint), ice, & massaging it with lotion. Nothing is helping much. It feels like someone is trying to saw off my leg still. Is there something I'm missing that I can do to help it? My next appointment w/my pain doctor is this Friday; I'm just desperate for a fix until then.

Hi...so sorry to hear how much pain you are in. I live the same life, but with a different problem. I would leave a message for you pain MD immediately. Aside from the hell of it, by next Fri if the pain continues you will be in a full blown pain flare up and they are so hard to get out of. Even if your MD isn't on call hopefully someone can help you.

I wonder if they could add another medication to your protocol. Pain is so weird, but I know I have more relief from Tylenol 3 and Carisoprodol than I did from Oxycontin. That didn't help at all. So what we did was add some regular medications and change to a different stronger one for breakthrough pain. And not only did that medication work better for me, but since it wasn't time released you could take another one safely without waiting 6 long hours. But since you say it usually helps hopefully this is a one time hell. Also do you have a sleeping med? If not that might be something easy to add since sleeping through the pain can be a blessing.

Last let me give you a healing tip I learned that can be very helpful if you can think clearly enough to do it (I know that can be very hard when in lots of pain). When hurting focus right back on the pain. Put all your energy to it. This sounds crazy but it really does temporarily stop the pain. An amazing healer explained this to me and physics supports it. (And after all we are energy/pain is energy etc). But you might give that a shot...can't hurt and I really hope it helps!

(Ran out of room)- I thought my appoint. was (Feb. 16) when I called the 15th to find out when it was (time wise), they told me it wasn't until March 2nd. So since it's not bothering me now, I'll see how it goes; if it flares back up again, I'll call my MD back & ask them for help. Report It

Wanted to try to explain better. Focus your energy INTO the pain, almost like you are directing your energy into the core of the pain. When I do it it's sort of like pushing into the pain with my thoughts.
Best of luck and feel better! Report It

You might want to go to the ER maybe they could give you something.

This could be because of muscle fatigue or dehydration. Try exercising all parts of your body. It also sometimes is due to disuse atrophy. Try out some home remedies. You can also look for information in the web that give you home remedies. I found this website very useful. http://aches.in/cramps.html
