Is Edema Serious in non-heart patients? Should I worry?

I am 30 and have edema in my legs and feet nearly everyday. I do not have heart problems. I do have sleep apnea and high blood pressure which probably cause the edema. Should I treat the edema and is it causing damage to my body & what can happen with this over the years?

Idiopathic Edema is a common disorder that occurs almost exclusively in women. It is characterized by salt retention in the absence of heart, kidney, or liver disease. The swelling (edema) may be episodic or persistent. Swelling of the face, hands, and feet develops rapidly, frequently accompanied by headache, irritability, and depression. Weight gain also occurs.

I think you should see your doctor!

please check webmd, symptom checker

When To Call A Professional

Call your doctor immediately if you have pain, redness or heat in a swollen area, an open sore, shortness of breath or swelling of only one limb.
The only way to prevent edema is to prevent the cause. Smoking is the main cause of chronic lung disease. Congestive heart failure most often is caused by coronary artery disease, high blood pressure or drinking too much alcohol. To avoid leg swelling on long trips, stand up and walk around often. Ideally, you should get up once an hour. If that's not possible, then exercise your feet and lower legs while sitting. This will help the veins move blood back toward the heart.

I can't find anything about the effects of prolonged edema. I would consult with a physician. You don't know what the effects are, and it would be a shame if something like this caused the lose of a leg due to poor blood circulation....

Have you gone to a sleep clinic for your Sleep Apnea? If you would go or if you did and a CPAP was prescribed and you are not using it please start using it! Many , many problems will clear up from it alone that one would never imagine ! I am 60 years old and honestly feel at least 20 years younger! This machine has allowed me to accidentialy loose around 25 or so pounds in weight from life stile changes!

Please go to a clinic if you have not gone for a full evaluation! I swear you will never regret it!

It will change your life and I feel extend it!

I have high blood pressure under control with beta blockers.

My wife loves the changes in me. And the silence in my sleeping. As well as the way it affected me in other ways!

Have a good day continue seeking information. But please seek treatment for your apnea, it really messed me up!

bye for now,

APS
