I suffer from EXtreme edema caused by congestive heart failure after MI?

A relative of mine, an MD far away, advised me to seek Digoxin .225 mg daily and that this will resolve the edema. But My heart attack was massive & every wall sustained major scarring and damage. So with such damaged left & right ventricles, can digoxin really overcome all this. ? I like to believe it - but it sounds like pie-inthe-sky. Does digoxin really have such power. In such severe cardiac damage as mine? Please share your opinion with me. I am in torment from pressure within my thighs, legs, ascites within the liver. I cannot flex my kees or legs to walk or descend stairs or wear pants. I cannot sleep and am nauseous. The fluid within the interstitial spaces, already jammed & trapped, how can digitalis remove it? Please help, any MDs please reply. I am about to seek ultrafiltration.procedure to remove water from my blood.

From the description you gave it appears that your gross oedema needs to be managed as an inpatient urgently.

The priority at this stage is massive dosage of diuretic like frusemide and probably intravenously. This will need a careful monitoring of your potassium levels and most likely supplementing it as required.

Yes digitalis will help as it is an inotropic drug (increase the force of contraction of the heart muscle) but this has to be started by your cardiologist after doing the necessary clinical and other assessment.

Digoxin is a wonder drug for cardiac failure. It is a sort of inotrope which increases contractility of heart muscles and keeps heart rate under control which is essential for proper filling of cardiac chambers and proper coronary flow.
But more importantly as your symptoms depict, you need mega doses of diuretics to remove the excess fluid and thus offload the heart.
I advise you to better get admitted in a cardiac centre as 1) mega doses of diuretics often make electrolyte imbalance and in that condition digoxin becomes a dangerous drug. 2) You may need lots of close monitoring and possible medical / surgical interventionsas per your condition.

sounds like your CHF isn't being managed properly. are you on a diuretic and a beta blocker? please see a cardiologist!
