What is post-surgical pulmonary edema?

My dad had a 2 hour surgery for a knot in his leg, 30 minutes after surgery went into pulmonary edema.

Pulmonary Edema is an accumulation of serous fluid in the lungs. After a clot is removed, it is not at all uncommon for serous fluid to accumulate.

Serous fluid, by the way, is caused by the seperation of whole blood when it stagnates after a clot.

When the clot is removed, the flow is resumed, and since the lungs have the thinnest membranes, the serum accumulates there.

This condition is not unusual, and it's easy to correct with surgery. The risk is minimal and it is not an indication of negligence or malpractice on the doctor's part. It's just a side effect of the clot.
